Discuss how biological bases of behavior (including sensation and perception) have contributed to your preference. 4. Analyze how engaging in or reacting to your preference (e.g., playing competitive sports or encountering a snake) affects your state of consciousness during that engagement. 5. Discuss the role that learning has had on the fact that you like or dislike the thing you described. Modern Day versus Civil War Racism in America :: Race

Today racism still exists, but not to the extent that it did during Civil War times. There is still the same amount if not more racism today even though it is very subtle in how it is displayed and also, due to laws that protect US citizens from it. Racism can be displayed through the media, marriage, and even at public schools. Usually television commercials are used to bring the good out of different products and the people that consume or sell the product, but sometimes the commercial will bring out the good in the product, but bring out the bad in the person. One example of this kind of advertisement would be a McDonald’s commercial that aired not too long ago. The setting was in a McDonald’s restaurant with two young, blank males. Each talking about how great a chicken dish was off the 1.00 Menu, but at the same time some foul language was being bleeped out. This helps contribute to some people’s beliefs that all black men do not care about the use of their language in public. Although, the use of foul language from rap music may trigger this, but how racist can this get? The media will also show racism in everyday situations. During a 20/20 episode that aired lately there were different situations that helped bring out the racism in everyday, white Americans. The first situations were about a group of young, white, teenage boys that stated to vandalize a car in this parking lot. During this several bystanders took a look and kept on walking by and only some people called the police. The second scenario was another group of teenage boys, but this time they were black. The setting was in the same parking lot, but there was not vandalism going on these young boys were just sleeping in the car. Again several white bystanders walked by and almost all of them called the police on the sleeping boys. These young men were just taking a nap in their car, not causing any problems. The third and last scenario was the same black boys, but this time they were vandalizing a car and every single one of the bystanders called the police like the world was goi ng to end if they did not. This shows the racism when it comes to the difference between white and black men in certain situations.

A Soldier Literary Analysis Essay

We are kept on this earth to make a difference, but we do not know what for. The poem â€Å"A Soldier† by Robert Frost tells the story of a fallen soldier. A soldier has fallen on the battle field. We do not know why the soldier fell; only that fallen soldier knew why. In this poem Frost uses metaphor and personification to compare a soldier to a lance. First, Frost uses personification to compare a soldier to a lance. By doing this you do not know if the soldier is the lance or if he comes in to the story later. It also means that the soldier has fallen in battle, but we do not know why. In the poem it says â€Å"He is that fallen lance that lies as hurled† (â€Å"A Soldier† 1). Therefore, Frost uses personification to compare a soldier to a lance. Second, Frost uses simile to compare our knowledge of what happened to just being men. It is so because sometimes we look too closely at something, and we miss the big picture. Or, we look at the big picture and miss the little things. Like, we see the soldier’s death as insignificant. We only look at the big picture, and what someone else did. For example â€Å"If we who sight along it round the world, see nothing worthy to have been its mark, it is because like men we look to near, forgetting that as fitted to the sphere† (â€Å"A Soldier† 3-6). Although we sometimes don’t understand why someone’s life was significant, we always have honored the brave men that have fallen for our country. Finally, Frost uses personification to give human qualities to a missile. He does this by explaining what the missiles do. They fall, and rip the grass. Just like when a soldier is shot; they fall and rip the grass. In the poem it says â€Å"They make us cringe for metal-point on stone† (â€Å"A Soldier† 11). By saying this Frost has compared a soldier to a missile because when a missile makes impact on something it makes us cringe. When a soldier falls, it makes us cringe at the horror of it. Therefore, Frost used personification to compare a soldier to a missile. In conclusion Frost uses personification and simile to compare a soldier to a fallen lance and a missile. He also compares our carelessness to just being men. We are kept on this earth to make a difference, but we do not know what for. I believe that Frost is urging you to find your calling in the world. A soldier has fallen on the battle field. We do not know why the soldier fell; only that fallen soldier knew why. This is similar to the theme, we are on this planet for a reason, and it is up to us to find out why that is. Therefore, Frost unites personification and simile to help urge us find out our reason to be on this planet.

In this particular case, Hassan v. City of New York, a variety of issues have been raised that intersect with the idea of government surveillance on these Muslim Communities. This case does not utilize a federal or state RFRA, but rather focuses strictly on determining the legal validity of the government surveillance program of Muslim Americans. The Plaintiffs have argued that the NYPD’s government surveillance program has violated the equal protection, establishment, and free exercise freedoms of the constitution. To understand these issues, it is important to examine each of these issues one by one. First, there is the issue of equal protection. The issue the plaintiffs raise here is whether the government can legally single out and discriminate against these Muslim Americans based purely on religion. Currently, religion is not seen as a â€Å"suspect classification† unlike race, because it can be changed, yet for most people, identifying with or practicing a religion is an immutable part of their identity as a person.
